“Because the biometric is vascular and requires blood to be flowing through the submitted hand, liveness detection is simply par for the course.”
Today is the final day of ISC West in Las Vegas, Nevada, and day four of Physical Access Control Month at findBIOMETRICS. It is fitting then that during the major physical access control conference, Fujitsu Frontech North America has announced its newest entry in biometric access control technology: the PalmEntryXS solution.
As its name implies, the new physical access control solution leverages Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometric technology, which uses near-infrared light to capture a user’s palm vein pattern in order to authenticate against the templates of already registered personnel. Because the biometric is vascular and requires blood to be flowing through the submitted hand, liveness detection is simply par for the course.
Additionally, a user’s vein patterns are not a matter of public record (you can’t post them on Facebook) and they aren’t left behind on things that said user might come in contact with. It is this feature that Fujitsu touts the most, as liveness detection and spoof-proofing in biometrics has become a significant topic of discussion over the past year as strong authentication has entered mainstream discourse and been placed under the microscope of speculation.
The PalmEntryXS specidfically features a new ergonomic design and an optimized user interface. The biometrics have not been upgraded here, but the end-user convenience factor has been given a boost.
“We have listened to customers and prospects and are delighted to be introducing this critical addition to our physical access control family,” says Randy Fox, vice president, currency handling and identification product solutions at Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “The design and user interface of the PalmEntryXS solution will make it a more compelling solution for many secure locations. Although the design is new, customers will appreciate that it still uses the tried and true PalmSecure technology that Fujitsu has offered for years.”
Those who want to take a look at the new palm-vein solution in person can stop by the Fujitsu booth today as ISC West wraps up for another year.
