Iris ID Tech Gaining Traction Among Major Law Enforcement Agencies

Iris ID is reporting growing adoption of its iris recognition technologies by some of America’s most prominent law enforcement agencies.

“We are pleased to see our iris recognition technology gaining traction amongst some of the biggest names in law enforcement, including the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department,” said Iris ID Director Tim Meyerhoff.

The FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system represents perhaps the most notable law enforcement platform using Iris ID’s biometric technology. The platform is used to capture and catalog various biometrics of criminal suspects and persons of interest, and since its launch in 2020 the NGI Iris Service in particular has logged over 2.7 million sets of iris images, with Iris ID’s technology being used to identify biometric matches with accuracy rates of up to 99 percent.

It was also in 2020 that the County of Los Angeles started using Iris ID’s technology in an innovative prisoner release system. Iris recognition technology replaced the preexisting fingerprint and photo-based prisoner verification system, offering an efficient, contactless, and reliable solution.

Local law enforcement agencies have also been using Iris ID’s tech for prisoner intake and to identify individuals in the field, while border authorities have used it to screen immigrants.

“The growth of iris recognition technology can be largely contributed to its accuracy, speed, cost efficiency, and touchless nature,” explained Meyerhoff. “As we continue to develop new iris recognition solutions, we expect to see deployments expand for a myriad of new applications that further reduce costs, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance security and health safety for law enforcement agencies and corrections facilities.”
