“The replacement devices went on sale in South Korea this past Saturday, with Samsung arranging public demos of the Galaxy Note7 the night before.”
Samsung is proceeding with the relaunch of its Galaxy Note7 smartphones.
The move is part of the company’s enormous recall effort in the wake of reports that some users’ smartphones were exploding while being charged. Samsung responded with a total recall of its devices, offering to replace the 2.5 million smartphones already sold, and fully replacing those in stores.
The replacement devices went on sale in South Korea this past Saturday, with Samsung arranging public demos of the Galaxy Note7 the night before. In a statement, the company says its events “attracted large crowds of consumers eager to get their hands on the Galaxy Note7,” with many eager to check out sophisticated features such as the Note7’s pioneering use of iris scanning for user authentication.
Samsung hasn’t set a firm date for the Note7’s relaunch elsewhere in the world, but says that the new devices “will soon be available for purchase in markets across the globe.”
