Biometric authentication technology company iProov has announced that it is providing its services for free to digital community platform bloomd in a continuation of its recent policy of helping startups that support people during the COVID-19 crisis.
bloomd is a digital community facilitating discussions and an exchange of knowledge, experience and companionship aimed at providing mentorship and companionship to people of different ages. The platform was originally planned to launch later this year, but moved its date up to be of service to individuals suffering from loneliness and isolation during the pandemic.
Through this partnership with iProov, bloomd is now able to offer users the added security of biometric authentication in a time when the increase in online traffic that has resulted from the COVID-19 crisis is fueling a surge in the technology.
“The idea of an intergenerational digital community allowing knowledge-sharing and companionship is inspired,” said Andrew Bud, Founder and CEO of iProov. “The addition of biometric authentication ensures that members can be safeguarded as they participate, helping to protect them from abuse or criminal behavior,” he added.
bloomd is open to everyone over 16 years of age, and features a simplified onboarding process. Similarly, its web app was designed with older generation users in mind who may be overwhelmed by new technologies, and allows users to share messages via chat, phone or video calls without the need to share personal contact info.
“Together we have developed an innovative approach to security in digital communities that I am certain will become the norm. iProov has shown us immense flexibility and generosity – we are incredibly grateful for their support in creating a platform which will drive positive social change,” said Niccolo Torrigiani, the founder of bloomd.
iProov’s biometric authentication integration is meant to provide bloomd users with the peace of mind that fraudulent behavior and persistent trolling will be kept to a minimum, allowing them to feel safer and their interactions to feel more authentic than on other online forums.
“I met with iProov’s leadership early-on with a real challenge; how to make a digital community of intergenerational exchange secure, accessible and scalable,” said Torrigiani. “iProov’s passion for the bloomd mission and its intersection with genuine presence, authenticity and online security has been inspiring.”
This partnership follows iProov’s recent decision to also support the launch of the bkynd platform, an online community that aims to connect people in need of assistance with local volunteers to do their shopping during the pandemic.
“The bloomd vision of enabling the old and young to communicate safely online is very much aligned with iProov’s mission and we are proud to be supporting their work,” said Bud.
