iProov’s liveness detection solution has been listed as a certified Qualified Trust Service under the European Union’s eIDAS regulations. The designation will allow Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) to add iProov’s facial biometric technology to their own platforms without needing to complete a second integration audit to ensure compliance.
iProov itself, of course, will still need to complete a yearly audit to make sure that it stays up to date with the pace of innovation. The company’s initial audit was carried out by TÜV TRUST IT and the TÜV AUSTRIA Group, and indicates that the company’s offering is compliant with eIDAS articles 20 (1) and 24 (1) d and its ETSI EN 319 401 and 411-1/2 standards.
QTS certification is the highest level of certification achievable through the eIDAS program. Solutions that fulfill that standard can bind a person’s real-world identity to their signature during remote and online interactions, which in turn creates the trust needed to carry out digital transactions. The regulations give e-signatures generated with approved technologies the same legal weight as signatures written with ink and paper within the EU.
For its part, iProov’s Genuine Presence Assurance solution uses facial biometrics to make sure that the proper person is present during an interaction, based only on a selfie. QTSP can use the technology to secure a range of onboarding and identity verification applications.
“For the first time, providers of Qualified Signatures can break free of video interviews,” said iProov Founder and CEO Andrew Bud. “eIDAS QTSP certification is the highest international bar for the technology and business systems of a biometric verification provider, so this certification gives confidence to identity providers worldwide that they can rely on iProov.”
iProov’s liveness detection tech has already been deployed in several national identity schemes, including Belgium’s itsme digital identity app and SK ID’s Smart-ID app in Estonia. The company recently launched a new Global Partner Program to drum up new clients, and landed just outside the top 50 in the latest FT1000 list of Europe’s fastest-growing companies.
