iProov is expanding the deployment of its facial verification and liveness detection technology across airports worldwide, aiming to streamline passenger processing and strengthen border security. The company’s solutions are being used for mobile pre-enrollment and walkthrough identity checks at various airport touchpoints, including arrival screening and other secure areas.
The approach supports what iProov describes as “walkthrough, face-based processing at multiple touchpoints.” Passengers can complete identity checks in motion at check-in, security, lounges, and boarding without repeatedly presenting physical documents. According to the company, programs such as its collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Orlando International Airport’s Enhanced Passenger Processing lanes have achieved processing rates of more than 12 travelers per minute, reducing queues and improving operational flow.
Enhancing Security with Liveness Detection
iProov’s “Genuine Presence Assurance” technology verifies that a real, live person is present during each interaction, mitigating the risk of spoofing through photos, videos, or masks. This anti-spoofing capability is a critical requirement in border security applications and supports compliance with strict government regulations.
While iProov’s own deployments focus on specific processing points, other recent industry examples highlight the broader trend toward biometric-enabled travel. Installations such as biometric boarding at Denver International Airport and TSA PreCheck Touchless ID at several American Airlines hubs show how aviation stakeholders are adopting touchless identity solutions to manage growing passenger volumes and enhance security.
Supporting Regulatory Changes
These developments also align with upcoming regulatory requirements. In July 2025, the European Parliament approved a measure enabling a progressive start of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which will modernize border checks for non-EU nationals. The European Commission has set October 12, 2025, as the date for the phased launch, giving member states time to integrate biometric identity verification into their border management processes.
Beyond compliance, airports implementing biometric identity systems report operational and customer experience benefits. Automated verification helps manage passenger flow during disruptions and peak travel periods, improving resource allocation and maintaining service standards.
iProov emphasizes that its deployments are designed with strict data privacy protocols. The company applies time limits and deletion schedules for stored biometric data. For example, in the Eurostar SmartCheck program, any residual biometric data was erased within 30 days of collection, in line with the service’s privacy commitments.
As airports adapt to higher travel volumes and evolving security demands, biometric technologies like iProov’s are becoming a key component in both passenger facilitation and border integrity strategies.
