A deployment at a Shell oil refinery demonstrates the value of Invixium’s biometric access control technology. In a case study on the latter’s website, the company explores its benefits for a complex deployment environment.
The refinery, located in Nigeria, is subject to ‘harsh environmental conditions’, according to Invixium, and features 53 access points seeing traffic from 80,000 workers, many of whom have “low quality fingerprints that are difficult to read.” But Invixium was able to overcome these challenges with its IXM SENSE FPL3 fingerprint scanners, which feature multi-spectral Lumidigm sensors and work with HID Prox cards to authenticate workers. Meanwhile, its IXM WEB software has helped to ensure that duplicate records are brought to the attention of administrators at the time of biometric enrollment.
While these accomplishments attest to the quality of Invixium’s technology, there were even more impressive aspects of the solution in the eyes of Iwuchukwu Clement C., the Head of Business Solutions (R&D) Unit for system integrator iTECO Nigeria Limited. In Invixium’s case study, he asserts, “The best part about the IXM SENSE was the cost and playful design” of the sensor devices, adding, “My client was visibly excited by the attention paid to aesthetics.” It’s a good reminder that when it comes to serving customers, even in the high-tech business of biometrics, sometimes the less tangible qualities of given solutions prove important.
