Safran Identity & Security has become INTERPOL’s exclusive facial recognition partner.
They seem to be a good match. Safran has a strong background in providing biometric technologies to government clients, while INTERPOL has increasingly concerned itself with biometric identification in its global fight against crime.
In a statement announcing the partnership, Safran Identity & Security Security Division EVP Samuel Fringant called INTERPOL’s selection of his company “a clear vote of confidence in the performance of our facial recognition system in terms of accuracy and ergonomics.” Fringant went on to suggest that the partnership is helping along Safran’s efforts in “consolidating our position in the facial recognition sphere, which is a real strategic growth area for us.”
Safran says that as part of the deal it has offered an automated facial recognition system to INTERPOL and its 190 member countries, though it hasn’t yet offered further details of exactly which technology has been provided.
