Innovatrics Touts Security Benefits of SmartFace Surveillance

Innovatrics is once again emphasizing the security advantages of its SmartFace facial recognition platform. SmartFace 5 debuted earlier this year, and is able to accurately identify faces across multiple live camera feeds in real time.

In that regard, SmartFace is a powerful tool for venue security. The platform can track the movement of an individual as they move through a building and appear on different feeds. That, in turn, makes it easy to keep tabs on persons of interest, or anyone on any other kind of watchlist.

However, the real strength of the platform may be its utility in follow-up investigations. On that front, Innovatrics noted that SmartFace negates the need to go through videos manually, and instead allows security staff to input key search criteria to sort through hours of footage in a fraction of the time. The Event History feature automatically creates an auditable record of activity, and stamps that footage with metadata that can be recalled at a moment’s notice. For example, administrators can search for each appearance of a particular individual, or determine exactly who was in one specific area of the building at a specific point in time.

Investigators can further narrow down the scope of their searches based on factors like gender and age, which can be useful if they are tracking someone who is not registered in the company’s security system. The backend can notify staff about new appearances of a person of interest, and detect the movement and presence of pedestrians more generally.

Innovatrics’ SmartFace system will be deployed at the new Palmerola airport in Honduras. The SmartFace platform comes with real-time passive liveness detection capabilities, which allow the system to spot the use of masks, photos, and other tricks that an imposter might use to try to spoof a facial recognition camera.
