Innovatrics has added another language to its Digital Onboarding Toolkit (DOT). The DOT’s optical character recognition algorithm is now able to recognize traditional Chinese characters, and can verify the authenticity of identity documents printed with that character set.
The Hong Kong national ID card is the first document that can be verified with the new Chinese language utility. However, Innovatrics suggested that it will be relatively easy to train the platform to support additional documents now that it has overcome the initial logistical hurdle (traditional Chinese has more than 50,000 unique characters) and can handle Chinese text.
The company is hoping that the news will increase the appeal of its Digital Onboarding Toolkit in the Asian market. The platform already offers support for Arabic and Bengali script, which were added to the platform in January and March, respectively. Innovatrics also supports the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets.
The complete Toolkit supplements document recognition with facial recognition to allow organizations to onboard new users remotely. The solution first asks users to take a photo of an identity document, and checks to make sure that the document has not been tampered with. It then asks users to take a selfie, and matches it to the image on the original ID.
Innovatrics believes that DOT can help mitigate fraud in the financial industry. The company has previously provided onboarding services for financial institutions in Latin America, and for Partners Group SK in Slovakia.
