Innovatrics is calling attention to one of the key advantages of its SmartFace Platform, at least when measured against more traditional surveillance systems. SmartFace is built with Innovatrics’ highly rated facial recognition algorithm, and can allow venue operators to identify individuals (including those on watchlists) in surveillance feeds in real-time.
However, the platform has even greater advantages when video footage is analyzed after the fact. In the past, investigators would need to manually sift through hundreds of hours of video footage to view specific events. SmartFace automates that process, and can identify persons of interest across multiple video feeds in a fraction of the time. In that regard, SmartFace can achieve speeds that are 25 times faster than the true length of the video in question.
According to Innovatrics, those performance benefits make SmartFace useful in criminal investigations, and in large venues like amusement parks when a child goes missing. The system can track as many as 1,000 people in a large public area, following a March update that added pedestrian and body part detection.
The SmartFace algorithm finished with a top-three spot in the Department of Homeland Security’s recent Biometric Technology Rally. The Platform can also be used to enable access control for people who are wearing masks.
