Innovatrics has upgraded its liveness detection capabilities to help guard against more sophisticated forms of fraud. The improved Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) solution introduces two new algorithms to supplement the one that already achieved iBeta Level 2 certification earlier this year.
According to Innovatrics, version 6.8.0 of its liveness detection platform performs three times as well as its predecessor, largely because the new solution uses those three algorithms rather than the original one. The first of the two new algorithms looks at small image details to watch for signs of spoofing, while the second looks at the background to watch for suspicious details that could point to potential fraud. As a result, the solution is able to evaluate an image quickly and accurately in virtually any environment.
The Innovatrics liveness solution is a core feature of the company’s Digital Onboarding Toolkit (DOT), which allows people to sign up for online services remotely. The system is completely passive, and can determine liveness with only a single image, and without any direct interaction with the user. Innovatrics believes that the new system will deliver a better user experience, and minimize the number of people who drop out during the liveness check.
In other news, Innovatrics is also highlighting the investigative utility of its SmartFace surveillance platform. SmartFace offers similar passive liveness capabilities, and comes with auditing features that make it easy to sift through recorded footage to identify specific individuals or to check what happened at a specific place and time. For example, administrators can use the platform to search for people on watchlists (or for people who are not registered with the system), or filter based on demographic traits like age and gender. SmartFace can then trace the movements of a person of interest as they progress through a building.
Innovatrics’ facial recognition technology posted a top-three score in the Department of Homeland Security’s most recent Biometric Technology Rally. SmartFace itself is set to be installed at a new airport in Honduras.
