“Our main aim was to improve the user experience of liveness checks, which require the user to follow instructions and can be cumbersome.” – Daniel Ferak, Head of Product Management, Innovatrics.
Innovatrics has announced a sophisticated new liveness detection system for its selfie-based facial recognition solution.
In a statement announcing the new system, Innovatrics asserted that it can “detect all of the common presentation attack techniques” based on a single photo of the user. While Innovatrics’ facial recognition solution was already capable of checking whether a live user was present by asking them to follow a randomly moving dot on their screen and tracking their eye movements, the company is positioning the new, passive liveness detection solution as a more frictionless and convenient means of liveness detection.
Nevertheless, clients still have the option of using the older liveness system, or combining it with the new one for added security.
“Our main aim was to improve the user experience of liveness checks, which require the user to follow instructions and can be cumbersome,” explained Innovatrics Head of Product Management Daniel Ferak. “Simple selfie for a passive liveness check cuts down enrollment time while decreasing the abandonment rates.”
Innovatrics adds that its liveness detection system offers a confidence score, rather than a simple yes-or-no confirmation, meaning that clients can adjust score thresholds depending on the sensitivity of the transaction for a which a user is being authenticated.
The system is currently available through a cloud service, but Innovatrics says that it is working on an on-device version as well.
The company has asserted that its facial recognition technology can reach accuracy rates of 99 percent, and that it has found its technology to be 95 percent accurate even when subjects are wearing face masks – an increasingly common practice amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
