Innovatrics Adds Cyrillic Script and NFC Support

Innovatrics has made several updates to its Digital Onboarding Toolkit. Most notably, the company’s optical character recognition (OCR) system can now read Cyrillic script, which means that the Onboarding Toolkit can now be deployed in regions that use that particular alphabet.

The latest update also improves the Toolkit’s NFC utility. Any Android or iOS devices with an NFC reader can now extract information directly from an ID, which allows that information (which could include facial templates) to be used as part of the identity verification process.

Finally, Innovatrics noted that the OCR can be trained to recognize new forms of identification. To do so, an organization only needs to provide the OCR with four high quality images of the ID in question, and direct its attention to the sections of the ID that contain important identifying information. The process takes a few days, at which point the OCR will be able to read other copies of the ID even if they are scratched, bent, or otherwise damaged.

In other identity news, Innovatrics went on to explain how businesses can use facial recognition to augment their existing biometric identification systems. The company claims that its facial recognition algorithm is still 95 percent accurate when identifying people who are wearing masks, which is a minimal drop in performance given the engine’s typical rate of 99.69 percent.

The Digital Onboarding Toolkit allows customers to complete the onboarding process with a mobile phone, so the technology can enable the delivery of remote services when physical venues are inaccessible. Companies can also combine facial recognition with fingerprint and iris recognition to create a comprehensive identity management solution for their enterprise.

Innovatrics has repeatedly highlighted the benefits of facial recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company added passive liveness detection to its facial recognition platform back in April.
