Innovative Technology to Promote Age Estimation Tech as Newest Member of AVPA

Innovative Technology Ltd has officially become the newest member of the Age Verification Providers Association (AVPA). The AVPA was established to help raise awareness about some of the new age verification and age estimation tools that have emerged in the past few years, especially those that replace manual checks with automated age verification.

For its part, Innovative Technology has developed ICU – an Intelligent Identification edge solution that uses facial recognition to verify someone’s age and identity. The platform is geared toward retail settings, and was built to ensure that only those who are of legal age are able to gain access to age-restricted products.

“The AVPA is dedicated to developing standards for age verification and work closely with regulators to help them understand the sector,” said ICU Product Manager Andrew O’Brien. “They are fighting for an open, competitive market for AV services, based on standards and subject to audit and certification. This is something we very much support and look forward to working with the Association and our fellow members over the coming months.”

Yoti and Experian are some of the more notable members of the AVPA, with Yoti in particular being a major advocate for self-serve age verification options in physical and digital retail environments. The company’s Age Scan system can reliably tell whether or not someone is over the age of 25, though Yoti is currently working to improve its accuracy with children. In that regard, Yoti has noted that age estimation technology can help protect people’s privacy, since it gives consumers a way to prove their age without disclosing any other personal information.
