IN Groupe, the French state-owned identity solutions provider, has completed its acquisition of Nexi’s electronic ID (eID) business, marking a significant development in Europe’s digital identity sector. The deal, which closed on November 4, 2024, reflects IN Groupe’s broader expansion strategy in the digital identity market.hand
The acquisition primarily involves MitID, Denmark’s national digital identity system launched in 2021, which serves over 5 million Danish citizens. MitID represents one of the most advanced digital identity infrastructures in Europe, with widespread adoption across public and private sector services.
Under the terms of the agreement, IN Groupe assumes operational responsibility for MitID while maintaining its existing ownership structure through the MitID partnership between the Danish Agency for Digital Government (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) and Finance Denmark (Finans Danmark). This arrangement preserves the public-private collaboration that has characterized Denmark’s digital identity development.
To ensure service continuity, IN Groupe and Nets have established a comprehensive Transitional Services and Separation Agreement (TSA). This framework outlines the technical and operational handover processes, with specific provisions for maintaining security standards and service levels during the transition period.
Agnes Diallo, CEO of IN Groupe, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition: “Operating MitID aligns with our expertise in delivering digital identity solutions across Europe. Our experience in managing national digital identity programs positions us well to support Denmark’s digital transformation goals.”
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of consolidation in Europe’s digital identity sector, as providers seek to build comprehensive platforms that can serve multiple national markets. IN Groupe has been particularly active in this space, having recently announced other major deals to expand its digital identity capabilities through strategic investments and partnerships.
