Imprivata and VMware Deliver Enhanced Sign-in Utility

Imprivata has teamed up with VMware to improve the utility of its GroundControl and OneSign solutions. The partnership specifically concerns Imprivata’s Enterprise Password AutoFill feature, what was introduced with GroundControl back in August.

The Password AutoFill feature was built to make it easier for healthcare professionals to log into apps on shared devices while at work. Employees tap their badge when they sign out the device, and in doing so link their digital credential to that device while it is in their possession. From there, they can enter a password in as little as two keystrokes, with Imprivata taking care of character entry once the user selects their credential.

The problem is that the initial version of the Autofill tool was only compatible with iOS apps. The alliance with VMware will extend those capabilities to the Android platform, creating a much broader ecosystem of apps that will support the streamlined AutoFill capabilities.

In that regard, Imprivata will be integrating VMware’s Workspace ONE platform with GroundControl and OneSign. Workspace ONE is a digital workspace platform that helps administrators manage access privileges, and determine who can use the device endpoints and the apps that are connected to the corporate network. On that front, the Imprivata partnership will allow healthcare professionals to use their OneSign AutoFill credential to log into any app that is running under the VMware umbrella.

“Today’s healthcare environment requires clinicians to input lengthy usernames and complex passwords every time they want to access an application, easily burning up to 45 minutes or more of valuable time per shift,” said Imprivata CEO Gus Malezis. “Our deeper collaboration with VMware enables auto-typed passwords and passwordless workflows that allow for enhanced password complexity while dramatically improving workflows.”

“This integration represents a huge step in providing our customers with frictionless mobile device access while ensuring security remains intact,” added VMware Healthcare Alliance Engineering Director Mike Lonze.

Imprivata has previously partnered with Microsoft to extend OneSign Single Sign-on support to Microsoft applications. In addition to releasing GroundControl, the company has recently launched a new assessment tool to help healthcare organizations find security gaps, and made OneSign available through Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. VMware, meanwhile, integrated Workspace ONE with HID Global’s Mobile Access solution in November of 2019.
