Imprivata has launched a new facial recognition system for patient identification, and it has already been integrated into the widely-used Epic electronic health records platform.

The Imprivata Biometric Patient Identity solution can accommodate obstructions like face masks and glasses, and is designed to cater to the demands of the HIPAA regulation. It operates with standard computer webcams, avoiding the need for specialized hardware. It is designed to be HIPAA-compliant, ensuring that biometric data is used solely for identification purposes and kept secure within the healthcare organization’s system.

The innovation aims to replace manual and error-prone patient check-in processes, thereby reducing administrative burdens, operational inefficiencies, and the risk of medical errors, while also fostering a more personal connection between healthcare providers and patients.
