“Biometric patient identification can improve health outcomes, enhance administrative efficiency, and fight potential fraud; FairWarning should help on that last front with its big data approach”
Healthcare biometrics specialist Imprivata is looking to enhance its patient identity platform with data analytics through the acquisition of FairWarning Technologies, LLC.
The latter’s eponymous platform is designed to analyze troves of data from sources such as CRM, EMR, and HR records in search of potential signs of fraud or breaches of sensitive information. To that end, it uses machine learning and AI; for end customers, the platform seeks to ensure compliance with regulations concerning patient and health data.
The solution would seem to offer a natural complement to Imprivata’s own patient identification solution, which revolves around the use of palm vein biometrics to reliably link health records to the patients they concern. Biometric patient identification can improve health outcomes, enhance administrative efficiency, and fight potential fraud; FairWarning should help on that last front with its big data approach.
“Our platform fits perfectly into Imprivata’s digital identity framework for healthcare and complements Imprivata’s focus on making identity accessible and secure across regulated workflows,” explained FairWarning CEO Ed Holmes. “We’re excited to join forces with Imprivata to offer a more comprehensive and integrated solution to our joint customers, and to continue to advance innovation in the digital identity and privacy space.”
For Imprivata’s part, CEO Gus Malezis expressed excitement about the companies’ similarities in “culture and in our commitment to our customers,” adding that FairWarning will be “a key component of our go-forward analytics and Digital Identity strategy”.
The acquisition comes after Imprivata announced the appointment of cybersecurity industry veteran Mark McArdle as its new SVP of Products and Design last month. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
