“The solutions leverage a range of sophisticated technologies, including facial and palm recognition for customer authentication, to eliminate traditional human labor from retail stores.”
iFresh, a grocery chain aimed at the Asian American demographic, is betting on Smart Retail solutions driven by AI and biometric technologies. The company has entered into a distribution agreement with Xiamon Yidong Intelligent Technology.
iFresh will market Xiamen Yidong’s automated checkout systems across the Americas, and will implement them in its own stores, the company says. The solutions leverage a range of sophisticated technologies, including facial and palm recognition for customer authentication, to eliminate traditional human labor from retail stores. In so doing, iFresh may be able to establish itself as an early adopter of Smart Retail technology, which is still in a nascent phase but generating noteworthy buzz.
In a statement announcing the agreement, iFresh CEO Long Deng explained, “We expect our customers to be attracted to the convenience of these unmanned checkout stations and we also plan to integrate the technology with current US payment systems to make it easier for US vendors to use.”
The retailer’s agreement with Xiamen Yidong entitles it to sell the latter’s E+Store, E+Box, E+Door, E+AI, E+Cabinets, and E+Shopping Cart solutions throughout the Americas for five years, with the option to extend the agreement another 10 years. Terms of the reseller agreement were not disclosed.
