“The workshop will place a strong focus on multimodal approaches, and will cover a range of modalities including the standards like facial and iris recognition, as well as more niche approaches like ear and foot biometrics…”
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is organizing a new workshop focused on biometrics, and has issued a Call for Papers.
In announcing the IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Biometrics 2018, the organization asserted that the use of biometrics in “authentication and identification have become center of focus for many important applications”, adding that such technologies “continue to mature rapidly, driven by pressing industrial and government needs and supported by industrial and government funding.” Those trends, in turn, are propelling the need for a dissemination of cutting-edge research, which is what the workshop aims to provide.
The workshop will place a strong focus on multimodal approaches, and will cover a range of modalities including the standards like facial and iris recognition, as well as more niche approaches like ear and foot biometrics, and other “exotic” modalities. And with The Computer Vision Foundation sponsoring the program, there will also be an emphasis on machine learning techniques.
Paper submissions are due by March 5th, with the IEEE scheduled to issue its decisions on April 4th. The workshop itself will take place on June 18th at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
