IDScan.n and Credence ID have announced that they are teaming up to integrate Tap2iD into the VeriScan platform for Windows, an integration that aims to allow businesses and organizations to seamlessly accept and verify state-issued mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) as easily as physical ID cards.
Tap2iD is a versatile IoT terminal that supports both QR code scanning and NFC taps, facilitating secure and privacy-preserving interactions with mobile IDs stored in digital wallets like those from Apple, Samsung, and Google.
The reader can be integrated into existing workstations and kiosks, enabling businesses to authenticate mobile driver’s licenses issued by more than 12 states, including California, New York, and Virginia.
“We believe strongly that mobile driver’s license adoption is poised to accelerate,” said IDScan.net President James Burke. “It is important for us that our products evolve to ensure businesses can accept these new ID formats as easily, seamlessly, and securely as they accept physical identity documents.”
The platform supports both state-developed wallets and non-native applications, aiming to offer a comprehensive solution for mDL verification.
“We’re proud to partner with IDScan to bring more ease and convenience to the emerging world of mobile driver’s licenses,” said Bruce Hanson, President and CEO of Credence ID. “As more states begin issuing mDLs and more relying parties accept them, the public will quickly move to this more secure and private method of carrying and presenting your ID. Soon you will truly be able to leave your physical wallet behind in favor of carrying and presenting your ID much like we now do with credit cards.”
The announcement from Credence ID follows a move earlier this summer that saw them partner with ZKTeco USA to integrate mobile driver’s license (mDL) technology into ZKTeco’s visitor management and access control systems. That collaboration aims to facilitate the growing acceptance of mobile IDs, allowing users to scan smartphone-based mDLs for access to facilities, thereby enhancing convenience and privacy.
