IDmission Reaches Level 2 Biometric Liveness Milestone

IDmission has joined a pretty exclusive club: the biometric authentication specialist has attained compliance with Level 2 of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluation program.

Entailing a battery of spoofing attacks aimed at fooling authentication systems with fake biometric credentials, iBeta’s PAD program is widely considered the gold standard in third party evaluation of liveness detection technology. Only a small handful of companies have passed PAD Level 2, which involves particularly sophisticated presentation attacks using materials like latex masks and 3D-printed face moulds.

In the case of IDmission, the testing was conducted on its passive liveness detection application, running on a mid-tier smartphone. Designed to operate across iOS and Android devices and ensure liveness detection in less than a second, the solution was able to detect every presentation attack thrown at it in iBeta’s program.

Commenting on the solution’s success, IDmission CEO Ashim Banerjee emphasized the technological feat of ensuring liveness detection with no added friction in the user experience. “Guaranteeing that a selfie being captured is from a live person (and not a photo of another picture or a mask or a video) is both technically challenging and mission critical,” he said. “To do so passively, with no user action required, is the icing on the cake.”

“We are delighted to have pushed the frontiers of AI just a little bit, and to be able to offer state-of-the-art digital identity services to our customers,” he added.

The Level 2 compliance comes just a few months after IDmission attained ISO/IEC 30107-3 compliance in iBeta testing at the start of summer. And with IDmission having launched large-venue access control solution in August, this latest success further underscores IDmission’s rising prominence in the authentication security space.
