IDEX Biometrics has teamed up with E-Kart to bring biometric payment cards to Eastern Europe. E-Kart operates a Visa and Mastercard-certified card production facility in Turkey, and can produce as many as 60 million smart cards for card issuers on an annual basis.
Thanks to the new partnership, E-Kart will be able to supply its clients with biometric cards that feature IDEX’s TrustedBio fingerprint technology. The cards will specifically take advantage of IDEX’s MaxÒ sensor module, which has been paired with a proprietary operating system and the SLC38 security controller from Infineon. E-Kart is the sixth manufacturer to adopt the IDEX and Infineon card reference design since its debut last July.
According to IDEX, the new cards will start shipping to card-issuing financial institutions sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. Though based in Turkey, E-Kart’s cards are distributed throughout the entire Eastern European region, while the company itself operates as a joint venture between Gisecke & Devrient (G+D) and Eczacıbaşı Holding. E-Kart can also manufacture smart ID cards, health cards, and SIM cards in addition to payment solutions.
“This partnership will provide banks and other payment card issuers in Turkey and globally access to biometric smart cards with industry leading performance and cost efficiency,” said E-Kart General Manager Coskun Beduk. “We see a growing demand for convenient and highly secure payment solutions and we aim at leading the market of biometric payment cards.”
“The time is right to bring biometric payment solutions into Eastern Europe,” added IDEX CCO Catharina Eklof. “This region represents a very large opportunity and our collaboration with E-Kart will deliver biometric smart card solutions that bring seamless user experience to millions of consumers in Turkey and Eastern Europe.”
IDEX has already delivered its reference design for MKSmart and an unnamed Japanese card integrator in 2022. The company’s technology has been featured in cards with Visa and Mastercard certification.
