IDEX has started shipping its Eagle fingerprint sensors to three clients. In a statement announcing the shipments, the company said the polymer sensors had been ordered for use in BIO-key’s SideTouch USB fingerprint scanner, and for a biometric door lock and “an encrypted storage solution” from two Asia-based clients.
IDEX CEO Dr. Hemant Mardia characterized the group of orders as representing Internet of Things applications for the company’s fingerprint sensor technology, calling the “traction in the developing IoT segment” a “strong validation of the Eagle off-chip sensor.” Dr. Mardia added that the orders validate that IDEX’s “shift to a direct sales model is starting to convert into sales,” and said that the company expects further orders from these same clients throughout the next year.
News of the Eagle sensor shipments comes on the heels of multiple orders for IDEX’s Cardinal fingerprint sensors over the past month, all of which were for mobile applications. With respect to the IoT market, IDEX says it is focusing on “selected vertical opportunities” where its off-chip sensor technology offers particular appeal.
