“This customer launch is yet another indication of the significant interest in biometrics in the smart cards for payments industry.” – Stan Swearingen, CEO, IDEX
IDEX has announced that its fingerprint sensors are being used in another biometric cards project in the Middle East.
The news arrives a couple of months after a similar announcement in which IDEX revealed that its sensors were being used in a trial program in the Middle East, though the company did not offer any details about its partner or partners in the project. In making its latest announcement, IDEX has remained tight-lipped, but did reveal that its partner is a bank, and that its sensor technology is “being deployed in biometric smart cards,” suggesting that this is something more than a trial.
Commenting further, IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen referred to it as a “customer launch”, which he said offers “yet another indication of the significant interest in biometrics in the smart cards for payments industry.” Swearingen added that biometric cards offer “enhanced security and increased convenience” in transactions.
While IDEX has not revealed its partners in these Middle Eastern projects, the company does have a well-established relationship with Mastercard, though that company’s involvement is a matter of speculation at this point.
