IDEX Biometrics Teams Up with Printed Circuit Board Provider

IDEX Biometrics has established another partnership in its efforts to prepare for the commercialization of biometric payment cards. The fingerprint biometrics specialist has teamed up with MFLEX (or “Multi-Fineline Electronix”), a provider of printed circuits and component assembly solutions.

In a statement announcing the partnership, IDEX characterized it as “a key part” of the company’s “mass production ready supply chain” for biometric payment cards. Elaborating further, IDEX CEO Vince Graziani said the agreement “allows card manufacturers to have instant access to high-quality flexible printed circuit boards in the required large quantities.”

Noting that MFLEX will provide these flexible printed circuit assembles for IDEX’s biometric payment card reference design, the company asserted that MFLEX has already received an initial order from an as yet undisclosed Tier 1 card maker.

For MFLEX’s part, CEO Reza Meshgin emphasized how a company like his – working together with IDEX – can help to streamline the overall card production process, benefitting card manufacturers.

“Developing an end-to-end supply chain for biometric card manufacture is critical to accelerating the development of biometric cards by card producers,” he said. “This allows card manufacturers to focus on their competences such as lamination, embedding, and personalization, and streamlines the card development and go-to-market processes.”

The MFLEX agreement is the latest illustration of IDEX’s interest in establishing a strong partner network, setting up the infrastructure to enable large-scale production and rollouts of biometric payment cards featuring its technology. IDEX teamed up with a Secure Element provider last month, and with a US-based global payment network scheme in January, to name a couple of recent examples.
