IDEX Biometrics has named Ingvill Tømt chief financial officer, the third person to hold or fill in for the role since June 2025, as the Norwegian fingerprint-sensor maker works to steady its finances around a pivot from biometric payment cards to access control.
Tømt, who joined IDEX in May 2025 as vice president of finance, becomes CFO effective July 1, succeeding interim CFO Kjell-Arne Besseberg, who had held the post since June 1. The seat has changed hands a few times since Kristian Flaten resigned as CFO in June 2025 after roughly eight months in the role; IDEX’s then-chief executive, Anders Storbråten, took on the CFO’s duties himself before this year’s interim appointments.
The appointment comes about a year after IDEX said it was shifting its core business from biometric payment cards to access control, stepping back from a payments push in which it had invested an estimated $350 million with mixed commercial returns in favor of a market it said carried fewer regulatory hurdles and a clearer path to revenue. IDEX cut operating expenses 52 percent year over year in the first half of 2025 as part of that shift, and has since built out its access control business with deals such as a 45,000-sensor order from DigAware for a U.S. enterprise rollout.
Financing has stayed unsettled through the transition. In March, IDEX signed a term sheet for a NOK 90 million private placement tied to an exclusive sensor partnership with Singapore’s ID Centric, under which ID Centric would have taken roughly 20 percent of IDEX’s shares. The two companies mutually dropped that investment in late April, and IDEX instead raised capital through an accelerated private placement backed in part by Storbråten and major shareholder Robert Keith. A separate, purely commercial sensor agreement with ID Centric, including a $1.75 million binding purchase order, was finalized in May.
“Ingvill has been instrumental in building our finance function since she joined, and she knows the business inside out,” said Besseberg, chief executive. “As we enter a phase of commercial scale-up, having a dedicated and experienced CFO is the right move for IDEX.”
Tømt previously held senior finance roles at Telenor and Coop after beginning her career at PwC, and holds a master’s degree in business and economics.
