IDEX Biometrics ASA has secured an order for 45,000 sensor systems from DigAware, a product division of Emnovate, marking a significant step in its pivot toward the biometric access control market. The order completes the delivery pipeline first announced in January of this year and underscores IDEX’s strategy to diversify beyond payment cards into enterprise security applications.
Expanding Access Control Solutions
DigAware is rolling out biometric access control solutions nationwide in the United States, with stated ambitions to expand globally. The latest order builds on the companies’ earlier collaboration announced at the beginning of 2025, when DigAware committed to deploying IDEX’s technology across enterprise and institutional facilities. The sensor systems use fingerprint authentication to secure physical access points, enabling enterprises to replace or supplement traditional card-based or PIN-based access controls with stronger identity verification.
IDEX emphasized that these sensors operate with on-card biometric matching, meaning personal data remains stored and processed locally on the device rather than in external systems. The privacy-focused design supports compliance with enterprise security requirements while making large-scale deployments more practical.
Strategic Context for IDEX
The deal reflects IDEX’s broader shift toward the access control sector. After years of pursuing biometric payment card adoption, the company has highlighted physical access solutions as a more immediate growth opportunity. While biometric payment card trials and limited commercial rollouts continue, large-scale orders in access control have provided IDEX with clearer near-term revenue prospects.
The company has also taken steps to strengthen its financial position. Earlier this year, IDEX raised capital through an oversubscribed subsequent offering of 600 million new shares at NOK 0.01 per share, providing resources to fund its expansion across both access control and payments. Previous contracts have included orders in other global markets, such as a 10,000-unit biometric card deployment, but the DigAware partnership demonstrates stronger traction in enterprise security.
Industry analysts note that demand for biometric authentication is expanding across both physical and digital domains. While forecasts for biometric payment cards remain positive over the next decade, IDEX’s U.S. access control deployments highlight a path to immediate adoption at scale. For enterprises, integrating biometric systems reduces the risk of lost or stolen credentials while offering a smoother user experience.
