IDEX Biometrics Issues 299 Million New Shares to Employees in Expanded Incentive Plan

IDEX Biometrics ASA has issued 299,381,600 new ordinary shares to its employees, contractors, and directors, completing a personnel placement approved by the board last week. The enlarged issuance replaces an earlier plan that would have offered only one million shares, and it is intended to align staff incentives with the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Inside the personnel placement

The shares are subject to an 18-month reverse-vesting lock-up. During that period, IDEX retains the right to repurchase any stock held by an individual who leaves the company early. The documentation published with the placement does not impose additional performance goals, but the time-based vesting mechanism encourages participants to remain with the firm and contribute to its business objectives.

The placement follows a series of equity-based programs that technology companies have used to keep critical talent in competitive labor markets. By issuing stock rather than relying solely on cash compensation, IDEX can conserve working capital while giving employees a direct stake in future earnings. Similar long-term incentive structures are widely used across Norway’s technology sector.

Broader market context

The new shares come as the company scales up its role in fingerprint authentication. IDEX sensors were selected for hardware wallets in China’s digital-renminbi pilot, and its latest ASIC is engineered to drive sensors larger than 90 mm², an architecture the firm says is critical for payment cards and large-format devices. Ongoing research into optimal sensor dimensions underpins those designs.

Across the biometrics landscape, adoption is accelerating. Recent industry milestones include a biometric security platform for digital-asset trading in the United Arab Emirates and new enterprise security features on Android. These announcements illustrate the widening demand for high-performance fingerprint solutions, the segment in which IDEX specializes.

By linking nearly 300 million new shares to employee retention, IDEX underscores its confidence in long-term market expansion and its own product roadmap. Management expects the added equity to help secure expertise in sensor design, system integration, and commercial partnerships as the global market for biometric credentials continues to mature.
