IDEX’s biometric smart card technology is another step closer to reaching the market.
The company has announced that trials with end customers have started, in collaboration with undisclosed partners in payments, card integration, and identity solutions. IDEX also says that the trials will be expanded to “[m]ultiple financial institutions and government bodies” in the coming months.
IDEX has demonstrated a keen interest in attaining a leading position in the emerging biometric smart card market, having aggressively promoted its solutions at CES 2017 and Trustech 2016. The company says that once these end customer trials have concluded, it will seek formal certifications for its biometric sensors for smart cards with the aim of getting them into mass production in the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, IDEX is also promoting new glass and ceramic fingerprint sensors, which the company will show off at next week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
