IDEX says it has commenced the certification process for its biometric smart cards, and that it expects it to reach completion early in Q2 of this year.
The certification process concerns IDEX’s sensor technology designed for integration into products such as biometric payment cards. In a statement, IDEX suggested it is now involved in “commercial launch preparations with… previously announced partners,” with commercial trials also underway. IDEX also asserts that its dual interface sensor technology “is expected to be integrated into ISO cards by leading card customers in the first half of 2018.
IDEX is also moving forward with contact-based and dual interface smart card projects that are not dependent on the certification process with “multiple Asian partners” including China-based Feitian. The company says that based on recent sampling, it expects to get start receiving orders from these partners in the first half of this year as well.
It all points to the growing excitement over the biometric smart cards market, which should see a flurry of activity over the coming year after extensive prep work by multiple parties over 2017. For its part, IDEX is demonstrating its biometric card technology at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
