IDEX Biometrics has revealed that its dual interface technology is being featured in a newly certified biometric payment card. The company did not disclose any information about the card itself, but confirmed that it was made by a tier 1 manufacturer based in Europe.
This is IDEX’s second major biometric card certification in as many weeks. The company has placed its dual interface solution in a new card from FEITIAN, which recently became the first contactless biometric payment card to achieve China UnionPay certification.
According to IDEX, the certifications will allow biometric cards to move from the pilot to the commercialization phase. IDEX is the first fingerprint company to achieve certification on two different payment networks, which collectively represent approximately 70 percent of global brand general purpose payment cards. The IDEX solution includes biometric software, the fingerprint matching algorithm, and the sensor itself.
“Our technology has passed the stringent certification requirements from multiple major global payment schemes,” said IDEX CEO Vince Graziani, who joined the company in February to help drive commercial growth. “Certified payment cards including IDEX’s technology are now available for commercial launches globally.”
IDEX’s biometric sensors will soon appear in an F.CODE card pilot from Zwipe and IDEMIA. Those cards will also feature a new chip designed specifically for biometric cards.
