IDEMIA Public Security has achieved the highest ranking in the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate’s Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD) Track 3 evaluation for liveness detection capabilities. This achievement follows IDEMIA’s consistent strong performance in NIST evaluations in recent years.
The evaluation, conducted at the Maryland Test Facility during the 2024 RIVTD demonstration, assessed remote identity verification technologies under rigorous testing conditions. IDEMIA’s system demonstrated complete effectiveness in liveness detection, recording zero successful attacks while maintaining consistent accuracy across demographic categories including gender, race, and skin tone.
The testing was performed under Cooperative Research and Development Agreement No. 24-TCBI-019 with the Department of Homeland Security. The results establish new performance benchmarks for biometric systems in terms of both security and demographic fairness, particularly significant as testing standards evolve to address demographic bias concerns.
“Our leadership in the RIVTD evaluation reflects our unwavering focus on creating technologies that not only deliver accuracy, but also operate equitably across diverse populations,” said Vincent Bouatou, Chief Technology Officer at IDEMIA Public Security. “In a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, fairness is becoming a legal necessity on top of a moral and ethical imperative.” Bouatou, who joined IDEMIA as CTO in late 2023, has been instrumental in advancing the company’s biometric capabilities.
The demonstration’s findings indicate that high biometric accuracy can reduce operational costs and manual verification time. Additionally, demonstrated fairness across demographics helps organizations meet emerging regulatory requirements and minimize legal exposure. This is particularly relevant as AI and biometric regulations continue to evolve globally.
The evaluation results, while significant for the industry, do not constitute an official endorsement by the U.S. Government or represent DHS policies.
