IDEMIA Releases Cloud Fingerprint ABIS for Law Enforcement

IDEMIA has unveiled a new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) fingerprint identification system geared toward law enforcement. The IDEMIA STORM Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) can be used for biometric matching and case management, and allows officers to gain access to those utilities while they are in the field.

According to IDEMIA, the simplicity of the STORM ABIS will make it particularly appealing to smaller law enforcement departments that may not be able to afford a more resource-intensive biometric system. The web-based ABIS allows people to carry out a fingerprint examination as long as they have access to the web, regardless of the size of the force and no matter how far away from headquarters an officer may be. As a result, it facilitates remote workforces and gives law enforcement agencies more flexibility in their operations.

The system was also designed to be easy to install, and to be as user-friendly as possible. In that regard, IDEMIA suggested that the ABIS will minimize onboarding and training costs, and free up more time for core law enforcement activities.

The STORM ABIS is available as an out-of-the-box solution that can carry out fingerprint matches at the local and national levels. It comes with standardized configurations to speed up deployment times, and can be updated with new features as fingerprint technology continues to improve.

IDEMIA has previously released a mobile FAP30 fingerprint scanner that was specifically designed for use in the field. The company has since renewed its longstanding biometric identification partnership with INTERPOL, and its contract with the New South Wales Police Force in Australia.
