IDEMIA’s MorphoFace ABC Solution Gets First European Deployment

IDEMIA‘s MorphoFace technology has now touched down in Europe with its first deployment in the region.

The system is now being used at the Oslo Airport’s Departures gate for automated, biometric border control based on IDEMIA’s facial recognition technology. It was implemented in collaboration with Avinor, a state-owned firm that administrates most of Norway’s airports, as well as local partner Seca Solutions AS.

Norway Police are also involved. In a statement announcing the deployment, IDEMIA explained that the system involves “a remote monitoring solution” designed for the Norwegian police that will send alerts during passenger processing, and “interfaces to systems (national, European and International) to support the immigration and emigration border processes.”

While that should allow for heightened security, IDEMIA is keen to highlight its system’s benefits in terms of the passenger experience. Commenting on the deployment, IDEMIA Citizen Identity and Public Security EVP Philippe Barreau said, “Many existing Automated Border Control infrastructures in Europe are now almost 10 years old and need a new and fresh approach,” adding that MorphoFace “allows Oslo Airport to reinvent its passenger experience.

The deployment comes after IDEMIA’s MorphoFace technology was implemented in similar biometric screening systems at customs gates in New Zealand and at Terminal 4 of Singapore’s highly sophisticated Changi Airport.
