IDEMIA Secure Transactions (IST) has introduced a new smartphone-based enrollment solution for biometric payment cards, building on the company’s F.CODE platform. The system uses a battery-less USB-C dongle compatible with both iOS and Android devices, representing a significant advancement in biometric payment card tech.
The enrollment process is conducted through the bank’s mobile application, where cardholders insert their F.CODE biometric card into the dongle and follow on-screen instructions. Users can also erase or re-enroll their biometric data using the same hardware and application combination. This approach simplifies the traditional enrollment process, which previously required dedicated hardware or branch visits.
The F.CODE biometric card system enables contactless payments authenticated via fingerprint, eliminating PIN entry requirements regardless of transaction amount. Biometric data is stored exclusively within the card’s secure element, rather than in external databases, providing additional security against fraudulent use in cases of loss or theft.
Recent consumer research indicates significant market interest in biometric payment solutions. According to survey data, 79 percent of global consumers would view their bank more favorably if it offered biometric cards, while 65 percent cite secure authentication as a primary motivation for adoption. The research also reveals that 60 percent of consumers are willing to pay for biometric cards, and 63 percent anticipate using them more frequently than traditional payment cards.
“We are proud to introduce this mobile-based solution to enhance biometric enrollment, empowering our customers to deliver a user-friendly experience for end users,” said Patrick Bauban, Biometric Card Product Manager at IST Payment Services. “This innovation highlights our sustained efforts to ensure a smooth and reliable enrollment journey for users of our biometric cards.”
