IDEMIA and INTERPOL Provide Training on Document Security

IDEMIA and INTERPOL gave border officials a crash course in the latest document security tech at the first Security Document Examination Training session in Hanoi, Vietnam. The three-day event was organized by IDEMIA and INTERPOL’s Counterfeit Currency and Security Documents (CCSD) branch, and ran from October 9th to 11th.

The training was set up to teach a group of 20 border officials and document experts about the technology that is being used to secure modern travel documents, which includes innovations like Stereo Laser Imaging, 3D portraiture, and color laser engraving. Those officials will then be expected to train their own colleagues to help border organizations spot forgeries and keep up with international traffic.

“The number of travellers is going to double in the next two decades,” explained IDEMIA Passport and Driver License VP Isabelle Poulard. “It is therefore very important to share best practices and train frontline officials in the fight against all types of document fraud.”

“New document security standards and innovative security features were discussed to enhance the knowledge and skills of participants in the fight against document counterfeiting,” added INTERPOL CCSD Coordinator Daniela Djidrovska.

The training also covered INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents database, the Edison platform, and other resources that are currently available to border agents.

IDEMIA has recently been investing in biometric border control tech for the APAC region, and has been identified as one of the key players shaping the emerging e-passport market. INTERPOL, meanwhile, hosted a similar document training session with Onfido earlier this year.

Onfido and IDEMIA previously collaborated on a selfie authentication and document recognition platform.
