“The device can operate wirelessly, with support for 4G/LTE connectivity, and it can operate despite dust, dirt, and strong sunlight.”
IDEMIA has launched a new mobile fingerprint identification solution that could prove to be an invaluable aid for law enforcement authorities.
Called RapID X1, the handheld device boasts of an FBI PIV FAP 30 certified fingerprint sensor, which IDEMIA says ensures that the device offers the highest quality fingerprint imaging for its size. The device can operate wirelessly, with support for 4G/LTE connectivity, and it can operate despite dust, dirt, and strong sunlight.
In a statement announcing the solution, IDEMIA’s Donnie Scott, who joined the company’s North American division as the head of its Public Security division last May, emphasized its benefits to law enforcement officers working in the field. “Now, with our RapID X1 device, officers have an easy-to-use mobile platform that helps them do their jobs more effectively and safely in the field,” he said. “We have engineered our RapID X1 to address real-world field environments and situations law enforcement personnel face every day.”
It’s the latest example of IDEMIA’s expertise in fingerprint biometrics, with the company having developed a 3D fingerprint scanning system in collaboration with Télécom SudParis last year, and continuing to draw interest with its MorphoWave scanner, which can scan multiple fingerprints at a time without any need for physical contact. And with a growing number of police agencies taking advantage of mobile fingerprint identification technologies in the field, RapID X1 could prove to be another hit for IDEMIA.
