IDEMIA has appointed a new SVP of Civil Identity with some serious credentials.
Matthew Thompson comes to the company from a previous position as Senior Director of Identity Services at Capital One, which he held since September 2016. From April 2015 to April of 2016, Thompson also served as VP of the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group, an organization seeking to establish an online trust framework for consumers; and in 2010, Thompson co-founded ID.me, a digital identity platform provider, and served as its President until 2015.
Those are some solid credentials in the area of identity management, but it’s also worth noting that from 1997 to 2008, Thompson served in the US Army, doing four combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, and receiving two Bronze Star Medals during that time. However else this may have benefited Thompson’s capabilities in the world of business, the experience will likely earn him a healthy amount of respect from US government officials in any potential dealings with them concerning IDEMIA’s civil identity solutions.
In a statement announcing his appointment, though, IDEMIA Identity & Security North America CEO Ed Casey emphasized Thompson’s “years of experience in the digital identity sector”, his “broad network of relationships in the digital identity space and his customer-focused mindset”.
For his part, Thompson said, “I am excited to join the industry leader in the identity market at this critical time of a rapid increase in demand for security and the rise in transformation from physical to digital identity solutions.”
