IDEMIA Celebrates Success in NIST IREX 10 Biometric Testing

IDEMIA is once again celebrating a bit of third party validation from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this time with the announcement that it has achieved the top ranking for one-eye accuracy in the NIST’s IREX 10: Identification Track evaluation.

“The results of IREX 10 confirm IDEMIA’s leadership in biometric research since the early 1980s, and the expertise of IDEMIA’s teams in this field,” commented IDEMIA CTO Jean-Christophe Fondeur in a statement. “Ranking first in iris recognition once more shows how advanced our technology is.”

In announcing its success, IDEMIA noted that its iris recognition technology is being used for border control in Abu Dhabi and Singapore, and in Aadhaar, India’s groundbreaking biometric national ID program.

The news comes roughly a year after IDEMIA’s facial recognition technology delivered a strong performance in the NIST’s Facial Recognition Vendor Test, with evaluators finding that IDEMIA’s technology outperformed those of similar US government suppliers by 30 percent in one-to-many biometric matching scenarios.

IDEMIA’s announcement also arrives at a time of growing interest in contactless biometrics, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic leading government authorities and business administrators to discourage the use of contact-based identification systems.
