A new executive appointment at IDEMIA points to the company’s growing focus on the India market. The company has announced that Matthew Foxton, a member of IDEMIA’s Group Executive Committee, is now its Regional President for India.
Foxton came to the company by way of Oberthur Technologies, which merged with Safran Identity & Security in 2017 to form what is now IDEMIA, a global biometrics and digital security giant. Foxton served as Oberthur’s VP of Communications & Branding from 2013 to 2017, and maintained that role under the new company.
Before joining Oberthur, Foxton served in marketing and communications roles at the IT services firms Novell and Bull.
In his new role as IDEMIA’s Regional President for India, Foxton succeeds Sanjeev Shriya, who is moving into an advisory role for the global CEO. Foxton will retain his position on the Group Executive Committee going forward.
In a statement announcing the appointment, IDEMIA framed it as a move aimed at “solidifying its commitment to the India market.” Elaborating further, IDEMIA CEO Pierre Barrial said that Foxton personally has a “cultural link to India given his status as an Overseas Citizen of India,” adding that IDEMIA has been highly active in the country over the past 25 years.
The company currently has nearly 5,000 employees in India, and it inaugurated a new, 11-floor corporate headquarters for the country in 2018.
The appointment’s announcement comes after IDEMIA named Didier Fontaine as its new Chief Operating Officer in October.
