IDEMIA’s New Case AFIS is Aimed at Latent Print Examination

IDEMIA has announced a new Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) aimed specifically at forensic investigators dealing with latent prints. Called IDEMIA Case AFIS, the system is linked to more than 160 local, state, and national law enforcement databases, including the FBI’s Next Generation Identification system.

In a statement announcing the new solution, IDEMIA emphasized its speed and accuracy, asserting that it “employs top performing latent algorithms” for fingerprints and palm prints. The company also asserted that the tools comprising Case AFIS “have proven effective in reducing and mostly eliminating backlog.” The company also stressed that its solution can operate through a laptop.

Donnie Scott, IDEMIA’s recently appointed SVP of Public Security for North America, offered further commentary. “Through working with forensic experts on leading edge techniques and approaches, IDEMIA’s latent print examination discipline has resulted in our latest compact and convenient offering,” he said. “The power of our market leading MBIS (Multi Biometric Identification System) coupled with our advanced latent examination tools packaged in a portable form provide latent examiners with the best in crime-solving solutions.”

IDEMIA plans to showcase Case AFIS from its booth at next week’s IAI International Forensic Educational Conference, which will run from July 29th to August 4th in San Antonio.
