Africa’s most prominent identity-focused NGO is planning to explore different approaches to digital identity numbers in an upcoming panel discussion.
The webinar, titled “Spotlight on Unique Digital Identity Numbers”, will feature numerous panelists, including Morocco CNDP President Omar Seghrouchni, National Identity Management Commission GM Hadiza Ali Dagabana, Mauritius Data Protection Commissioner Drudeisha Madhub, Gabon Biometric Identification Project Deputy Director Aimé Martial Massamba, Kenya Director for National Registration Reuben Kimotho, and Sofiene Hemissi, Tunisia’s Director General of Information Systems Development at the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment.
The discussion will also feature a keynote speaker, Jonathan Marskell, the Senior Program Officer of the World Bank Group’s Identification for Development program. And it will be moderated by Dr. Joseph Atick, ID4Africa’s Executive Chairman.
ID4Africa is an NGO focused on helping African nations in their approach to national identity programs as they undergo digitization. As such, it’s well placed to host this panel discussion, which will tackle topics such as whether digital ID should be centralized under one agency, how to manage privacy and data protection, and the role of tokenization, among other issues.
Many African countries have already embarked on next-generation identity programs, but the matter has taken on a greater sense of urgency in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as government agencies have been compelled to find new ways to deliver assistance and services to their citizens.
The panel is therefore particularly timely. It’s slated to run from 14:30 to 16:00 CET on July 23rd, and registration is now open and free of charge.
