Bird Facial Recognition” System Watches Over Winter Gulls
Kunming’s Dianchi Lake researchers are using an AI setup of fixed cameras, drones, microphones, and deep-learning models to identify species and log behaviors in real time, achieving about 90 percent accuracy across multiple birds. After two seasons, the system recorded the main flock of black-headed gulls arriving roughly ten days later in 2024 than prior years, and has identified 17 species with a large archive of images, video, and audio. Despite the nickname, it recognizes at the species level (not individuals), enabling non-intrusive tracking of migration timing and population size.
Cognitec Ships Next-Gen Matcher For FaceVACS-DBScan ID, Boosting Speed And Accuracy On Hard Poses
Cognitec released an updated FaceVACS-DBScan ID with a next-generation matcher—based on Engine 9.9—that improves large-gallery search speed and accuracy, particularly for extreme pose angles up to profile. The release adds the company’s top-ranked NIST age-estimation module and an improved face finder, with Cognitec noting in-house testing and an expanded training set aimed at minimizing demographic performance gaps. Use cases include civil ID dedupe checks, passport offices, and law-enforcement workflows.
Sproof Launches “Ident” as a White-Label, EUDI-Wallet-Ready Identity Layer for Europe’s AML Era
Austria’s sproof unveiled “sproof Ident,” an API-first module that unifies Auto-Ident, Video-Ident, eID-Ident, and a Unified EUDI-Wallet Connector into a configurable, EU-hosted platform aligned with eIDAS 2.0 and AMLD6/AMLR. The orchestration layer lets enterprises route users to the right verification flow today and plug in EUDI Wallet credentials as they roll out across member states, with data-minimization and GDPR-aligned residency. It joins sproof’s digital-signature and identity tools to keep KYC and signing in one stack.
Lebanon Resumes Biometric Driver’s Licenses Nationwide From October 10
Lebanon’s Traffic Management Organization restarted nationwide issuance of biometric driver’s licenses for all transactions completed on or after October 10, 2025, marking the first full restoration since production disruptions halted distribution. Earlier limited operations this summer paved the way for the national restart, reviving a program originally launched with Inkript and Vision-Box. Authorities have not clarified upgrade handling for pending applications.
Maldives warns 27,773 foreign workers to update biometrics by Nov. 15 or face deportation
The Maldives’ Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology set a November 15, 2025 deadline for 27,773 expatriates to complete fingerprint, photo, and biodata registration in the Expat Online system, warning of deportation for non-compliance under the Immigration Act. The push, part of Operation Kurangi, names the count of affected workers and employers and follows earlier extensions amid processing bottlenecks. Enrollment is handled at designated centers, with officials urging companies to schedule remaining captures.
JPMorgan to Require Fingerprint or Iris Scans for Entry at New York Headquarters
JPMorgan will make biometric enrollment mandatory for access to its new 270 Park Avenue headquarters, replacing badges with fingerprint or iris scans at lobby turnstiles, per internal communications reported by major outlets.
