ID R&D’s Document Liveness Service Reaches Across Three Continents

ID R&D is celebrating the successful launch of its IDLive Doc liveness detection solution. The company first unveiled IDLive Doc back in October, and has now delivered the product to clients on three continents.

At its core, IDLive Doc is designed to do for documents what IDLive Face does for faces, insofar as both products offer liveness detection to guard against presentation attacks. The difference is that IDLive Face is used to distinguish a mask or a photo from a real face in a selfie, whereas IDLive Doc is used to determine whether or not someone has taken a photo of a physical ID, or is trying to beat the system with an image of a document displayed on a screen.

In that regard, ID R&D noted that illicit digital document images are readily available to fraudsters who know where to look for them. By providing document liveness detection, IDLive Doc is able to ensure that the person completing an onboarding process is in fact in possession of the physical ID when they submit an image of that document for approval.

During onboarding, the image on the identity document is compared to a selfie (also checked for liveness) to make sure that the two are a match. The automated solution is expected to reduce manual inspection costs for organizations, with ID R&D suggesting that IDLive Doc was built to meet the growing demand for document liveness from its clients.

According to ID R&D, some clients are using IDLive Doc to doublecheck document images that were submitted by existing customers. The company also offers voice liveness detection, and has argued that computers are more accurate than people when it comes to detecting spoofs.
