ID R&D’s voice recognition solution has bested the competition in the 2021 Short-duration Speaker Verification (SdSV) Challenge. The Challenge specifically looked at the microphone channel, and evaluated contestants based on their ability to verify the identities of speakers in a text independent setting.
In the process, the organizers hoped that the participants would overcome some of the limitations that have historically hindered the utility of voice recognition technology. Most notably, short-duration speech solutions have often struggled when asked to switch between two different languages, making multilingual solutions less useful for customers in practice.
With that in mind, the 2021 SdSV Challenge asked the participants to deliver solutions that could carry out speaker verification in both English and Persian. The systems that scored well needed to be able to use one language for enrollment and the other for verification without a significant drop in accuracy. ID R&D did that particularly well, taking the top spot in a field of 24 total competitors.

This is not the first time that ID R&D has performed well in a voice recognition challenge. The company’s technology previously took the top spot in the NIST’s ASVspoof Challenge in 2019.
ID R&D has since updated its authentication capabilities, and now claims that its voice technology is just as reliable as a PIN when unlocking a device. The company has also patented a solution that will reduce the computational footprint of its voice recognition system.
