ID R&D Wins Another Spoof Detection Challenge

ID R&D’s voice liveness technology has taken the top spot in another spoof detection challenge. The company previously finished first in the Automatic Speaker Verification Spoofing and Countermeasures (ASVspoof) Challenge in 2019, and followed that with another first place finish in the Short-duration Speaker Verification Challenge (SdSVC) in 2021.

Now ID R&D is claiming the top prize in the 2022 Spoofing-Aware Speaker Verification (SASV) Challenge, which was run by a group of academic institutions and commercial entities that are involved in the voice biometrics space. The SASV Challenge differs slightly from its predecessors, insofar as it is the first evaluation that tested a solution’s spoof detection and matching capabilities at the same time.

ID R&D’s IDVoice Verified solution was the top performing product in that regard. IDVoice Verified combines the company’s IDVoice and IDLive Voice solutions, with the former conducting the biometric match and the latter serving as passive liveness detection. The combined solution was one of 23 products submitted for the SASV Challenge, and it bested the competition in both the matching and spoof detection categories.

The IDVoice Verified solution completes a liveness check before performing a biometric match. The spoof prevention component ensures that fraudsters cannot bypass the authentication process with synthetic or pre-recorded speech, with ID R&D arguing that automated liveness detection systems are more effective than their human counterparts. Mitek cited liveness detection as a key consideration when it acquired ID R&D in the first half of 2021.
