IBM Gives Corvus FaceCube a Platform at GIS

Biometric identity solutions provider Corvus Integration will have a new product featured at this year’s Global Identity Summit in Tampa, the company has announced. Its FaceCube camera will be a part of IBM-hosted exhibits at the industry event.

The Corvus FaceCube is designed to pack powerful imaging technology into a compact and versatile hardware. It’s an auto-focus, 5MP camera featuring integrated LED lighting and a 15FPS screen rate when at full, 2592 x 1944 pixel resolution. It’s also capable of capturing face images compliant with ISO/IEC 19794-5 standards; together with its USB 2.0 interface, that could essentially make the device a plug-and-play camera for facial recognition systems.

Advanced imaging technology is increasingly important as facial recognition continues to rise in prominence as a biometric security solution. The use of infrared cameras in Windows 10’s Windows Hello biometric authentication system is perhaps the best example of this trend, but we’re also seeing the appearance of other consumer security products such as home surveillance systems that are also starting to use facial recognition, and thus require quality face imaging technology. As a longstanding and highly specialized player in the biometrics field, Corvus should enjoy a boost of attention with its new product on display at IBM-hosted exhibits in this year’s GIS.
