In the wake of the OPM hacking scandal, HYPR is promoting its security solution as a means preventing such occurrences in the future.
In a recent blog post, the company notes that the Office of Personnel Management lost the fingerprint biometric data of about 5.6 million people in the security breach, and asserts, “This is what happens when a stockpile of anything valuable is centrally stored.” HYPR’s trusted platform modules (TPMs) prevent such breaches by using biometric tokenization to store sensitive data in on-device safe zones. That data is accessed without the overall biometric template ever leaving the device, and moreover to gain access, a different factor, in the form of what HYPR calls “a cryptographic signature,” is needed as part of a cloud-based authentication procedure.
HYPR will be further discussing its solution at this month’s NY Information Security Meetup in Manhattan, where HYPR business development manager David Raviv will be speaking alongside a number of other high-profile IT security experts. Raviv was appointed to the company’s executive team this summer, and is the founder of the monthly event.
